The Lighthouse Observatory, Erraid

Beautiful rainbow pillar candles hand-made by the Erraid Community, available in the historic Lighthouse Observatory.

Candles have been made by the Erraid Community since its inception over 30 years ago and are now available via an honesty box found in the historic Observatory. For 80 years, Erraid was the land station for the keepers of Dubh Artach and Skerryvore lighthouses built by the Northern Lighthouse Board under the direction of chief engineer Robert Stevenson (father of author Robert Louis). Each candle is lovingly poured, coloured and polished by a succession of residents who live communally in the lighthouse cottages under the principles of the Findhorn Foundation, founder of the international Eco Village Network. A range of coloured candles may be made to order for collection or posting worldwide. Erraid is open for residential guests all year round, enabling people to participate in the rich yet basic life of the community, embracing natural rhythms inspired by living in harmony with the earth. Please get in touch via email or see our website for more information.
