Over the centuries Iona has inspired poets, musicians, artists and theologians. Its landscape speaks of angelic visions and ancient burial grounds, a hermitage of the sea and a place of reflection and revival. At Aosdàna we continue to be inspired by our island home and by the work of Iona jewellery designers Alex & Euphemia Ritchie and Iain MacCormick, who reflected the history and culture of Iona through their craft. Aosdàna’s story begins in 1996 when Iain gifted his collection of old Iona patterns and his knowledge of their complex forms to his young relative, Mhairi Killin. Mhairi established Aosdàna in 2003, continuing a century old tradition on Iona of working with these unique designs. Whilst acknowledging this legacy at Aosdàna, we also reflect the present cultural and physical landscape of Iona through our contemporary collections, from our own workshop and from leading designers in Scotland.
