Ray Canham

I'm a writer of assorted travel books, memoirs and humorous articles. Mull features in my book Still Following Rainbows.
Writing on Mull makes all the difference. It’s hard not to be creative when you are surrounded by so much natural beauty. I was born in London and raised in Hertfordshire and Suffolk. After a school career that could best be described as truant, I went on to train as a nurse, such was the desperation of the NHS in the early 80s. After a career in the NHS and community development my wife and I decided to swap suburbia for a motorhome, sold our house and went on the road. Life on the move re-ignited a desire to write that had been limited to company annual reports, a punk rock fanzine and forging notes from his mother to excuse me from PE. In 2018 I published my first book, Downwardly Mobile, documenting our adventures on the road working at festivals. Follow up, Still Following Rainbows documents the highs and lows of adjusting to life and work on Mull. Even Unicorns Die – a collection of short stories and opinionated nonsense, was written on Mull during the 2020 lockdown.
